Tutorial: Low-Poly Workflow in RealityCapture using Blender

Learn how to leverage a RealityCapture model to create a low-poly version of the same object in Blender.
We will show you how to preserve the realism and authenticity of the model by texturing the low-poly model right within RealityCapture, utilizing the original textures.
But that’s not all – we’ve got you covered with valuable insights into texturing basics, editing textures and making your own unwrap.

Thanks Wallace, good tutorial which seems quite straightforward to follow :+1:

Why would you use this workflow instead of taking photos of each side of the house and just mapping them to the simple house shape?

Thank you for your tutorial, Wallace. I dont understand the need to use Adobe Substance in your example. maybe i miss something ?
Personaly, i just use Photoshop to correct my textures if needed.
A thing i always do in Reality Capture before i export an geometric object like an house : I am trying to correct the verticality and horizontality of my object in realityCapture. This way, it’s easier in Blender to work on objects that correctly respect alignment on the X, Y and Z axes.

Hi, that would definitely be another option, except you would not get a normal map. The purpose of the tutorial is not specifically how to make a low poly house but more to understand the principles so people can use the knowledge to apply to a huge range of solutions , like a medium poly workflow of a complex shape or simply baking materials onto a plane. The normal map is a game changer here specifically on the roof tiles. the walls could probably just use something procedural.

The advantage of substance is that it will edit all of your maps simultaneously, in this case normal and diffuse. But you could work in photoshop if you start recording an action when working on the diffuse and then playback that action on the normal map.

Wallace, thank you for your explanation on substance painter. I better understand your process.
