I cant seem to do it no matter how hard I try we just cant edit in eachothers workplace

If I understand correctly, you and your friend are trying to work on the same project together but haven’t been able to set the system up properly. I know it can seem complicated at first, but don’t worry, you’ll be able to get it up and running with the right steps.
I can recommend two different methods for this.
At the company I work for, we use Perforce Helix Core. You will need a VDS for this. Since Perforce Helix Core is free for up to 5 users, you can set up a source control system just by paying the monthly VDS fee.
If you don’t want to pay any fees at all, I can suggest using Azure DevOps and Git LFS, which is what I use for my personal projects at home.
