I’ve been struggling to learn how to naturally paint my terrains, as I was able to do easily in Unity. I’ve viewed many tutorials, and I am not really sure what I am doing wrong, but for example using the LandscapeCoords->textures->LayerBlend->material using different methods, I seem to just keep getting blocky and chunky textures with no natural transitions, and blackspots and uneven drawings on my terrains. Like I said I’ve gone through hours of tutorials on gettings this right, and read large chunks in the manual and in the wiki articles. I was wondering if there are some good sources or programs that use (preferably free tools of course, though I won’t rule out anything) that makes it easier for non-artists and relatively non-advanced users like myself in making nice natural terrains with for example, rocks, grass, mud, etc. In unity its easy for me , all I do is load a texture and then click on it and I can draw on the terrain like a canvas. I know this can be done in UE4, but I just can’t seem to grasp the concepts to get it to the same level of ease. I have like 30 pages of notes that I have been taking by hand as I watch and mimic the tutorial vids, but I want to enjoy this part of this part of the process rather than feel it as burdensome-full. Recommendations would be very very much appreciated by users who understand what I am going through. Thank you so much ahead of time guys.
Game dev can be a tricky business until it all clicks, every part of it, so this should steer you:
Landscape Paint Mode in Unreal Engine | Unreal Engine 5.1 Documentation < A quick page that shows some basic things,
Landscape Material Layer Blending in Unreal Engine | Unreal Engine 5.1 Documentation < much more involved, but good nonetheless ,
Lastly the link below that might be easier to see it done in action than read about it initially:
THis too, once you are getting comfy :
Should do it, GL!
cheers
Thanks for the links, will let you know
