Trigger destructible mesh in sequencer

Can’t wrap my head around this.
I have chess pieces animated in sequencer, and when they overlap eachother, i want to replace the piece with their destructible mesh and trigger it or just trigger the destructible, and move them around instead of the original pieces.

I can’t get them to trigger at all in sequencer, only in the simulation - which approach is recommended? I am super new to Unreal.
