Kuji-In gestures (also known as Kuji-Kiri, meaning “nine hand seals”) are a sequence of specific hand positions traditionally associated with Ninjutsu, though similar practices also appear in various other martial arts and spiritual traditions connected with ninja (shinobi). Variations of these hand seals have been used in popular anime such as Naruto and Jujutsu Kaisen (Magical Battle)
Zen (全) – The symbol of the absolute and enlightenment. It represents the universe and is believed to unite all forces into complete harmony.
Jin (進) – Associated with awareness, including sensing the thoughts or intentions of others. Linked to the sun, it symbolizes growth, progress, and development.
Zai (存) – Connected with creation and understanding the natural world. Representing the stars, it is thought to strengthen intuition and wisdom.
Retsu (力) – Symbolizes dimension, often interpreted as influence over time and space. Associated with the moon, it is said to enhance vitality and inner power.
Kai (空) – Represents intuition, such as sensing danger or perceiving hidden intentions. Linked to the void, it is believed to expand the mind and open new possibilities.
Sha (殺) – Traditionally connected with healing, both for oneself and others. Associated with the element of air, it is said to increase agility and quickness.
To (触) – Symbolizes harmony and unity with oneself or the universe. Representing the earth, it is believed to bring stability and grounding.
Pyo (兵) – Connected with directed energy. Associated with the element of fire, it is said to strengthen courage and physical power.
Rin (臨) – Linked to the element of water, this seal is believed to promote calmness, focus, and mental clarity.
