I’m trying to make my own trees that change color over time. Which means I need to remake the material for the leaves. I don’t understand how the Fortnite leaves seem to cast no self shadow. I’m using the same mesh, just my own material but mine looks rougher.
Its not 2 sided sign, its not Subsurface Shading Model, Its not Two Sided Foliage Shading Model. Its not AO. I just don’t know how its done. This is probably an advanced question.
Does turning off the staticmeshcomponents’s shadows not work ?

That makes the shadow on the ground go away and not affecting much of the self shadowing. Also the settings are matched to the epic tree, and only the material is changed, so they didn’t seem to turn that off. Hmm Still poking around at it. On Discord Deathrey suggested “Shadow Pass Switch” which is very cool but also not yet fixing this issue. It might be that I’m not yet using it to its fullest.

Someone named CC on discord helped me find the answer. On two sided foliage shading model, the opacity channel handles the self shadowing!
