as the title suggests - I can’t find the axis or trigger options in the Translator Animator in TM 2025.2 Preview. I’m trying to follow along with a YT video that uses 2023.2 Did the functionality get removed?
ok, once again I solved my own problem. My mistake was to not look inside the “Collision Mode” menu… Doh!
But I have another problem, with objects detaching from translaters after syncing with Direct Link - I will post a different thread for that, so please don’t comment further in this one
The parameters have changed following the animator system rewrite:
-
Trigger is now only available under Collision mode.
-
Axis parameters have been removed — you can now set the orientation using the gizmo in local mode, by editing the parent directly.
Regarding reimport, please note that the hierarchy is fully rebuilt during the process. This means any manual changes to the hierarchy — including parenting to an animator — will be lost. Currently, there is no way to preserve these custom hierarchy modifications after a reimport.
Changing the axis using the parent gizmo doesn’t work properly. If I rotate the animator before linking the object, it still defaults to the global Z axis regardless of orientation. After linking, rotating objects inside the translator has no effect either. The only workaround is rotating the entire animator family, which is tricky without the directional blue arrow. Even then, it changes the whole orientation, which isn’t the intended result, meaning I would have to rotate the object first, add it to the translator and than turn it back to the correct axis with the whole animator. This used to be a quick and simple process before the update, but now it takes several extra steps to achieve the same thing.
I’ve also run into a few bugs. Translators imported from older TM versions (2025.1 or earlier) sometimes break, though not always. What really frustrated me just now in 2025.2 is that when I tried to undo with CTRL + Z, the objects inside the translator either stayed rotated or disappeared entirely. If anyone else is dealing with this, I recommend using the unlink feature. I learned that the hard way.
My current workaround is using the premade sliding-door and swapping the objects manually. It’s not ideal and adds unnecessary complexity, but at least it works. If that doesn’t help, the only other option I can think of is deleting the sliding door, going back to your modeling software, adjusting the axis there, and reimporting the door with matching coordinates.
I really like this version overall, but I have to say the new translator system feels like a step backwards. Please consider bringing back the axis controls with the visible directional arrow. They were essential to a smooth workflow!
EDIT: Another little bug when exporting a scene with an animator inside it will start open instead of closed, even if there’s no other object or camera near by that could interact with it. Nothing that a quick cut can’t solve luckily, but still. That’s an issue that wasn’t there before! I used the the prefab sliding door as a base, maybe that’s the issue?
