Transferring Multiple Assets and Maintaining positional relationships?

I am creating a large tree made of splines, lots of separate splines (purchased from a Nature Pack at the Epic Marketplace). I know how to group items, but is there a way to group them so they maintain positional relationships if you’d like to transfer the final product to another project and not have it show up at the destination in pieces that have to be reassembled?
Thanks!

Hey there @Fantam_Mayfly! So you could create a child BP of it and just set that instance up how you’d like and that’d be easy enough to transfer everywhere. If you’re using level instances, you could also use packed level instances, they are basically prefabs.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread. Thanks much for answering! Recently I tried to take 2 spline based tree trunks and merge them as a test, and to my surprise, each branch with it’s accompanying foliage was 20 items, for a total of 40 assets, and when I selected merge, UEv5.1 crashed to desktop several times.

I’ve submitted a bug report to Epic, but in that report I acknowledged that I have no idea if the mechanics of pieces of spline based trees are such that they can be merged? Do you know by chance?

I will look into Level Instancing as my next quest. :innocent:

It’s dependent on if they are the native splines, if so there shouldn’t be any issues with putting them in the same object not sure if end to end combination works outright, however if the trees are custom/plugin they could be using something other than native splines. If I may ask what was the error it threw?

I don’t know. I need to get into the habit of checking that. I did send the engine logs to Epic. Is it something I could figure out? Can I open the logs and make heads or tails of it?

You could definitely open the BP and check if the roots/limbs are spline mesh components/spline components. Otherwise they may be custom by the plugin you got them from. Most spline implementations follow the same paradigms, but not always. If I had a custom implementation for splines specifically for foliage there should be a way to have branches. If the assets are free you could link them to me and I could also take a look if you’d like.
