Total Noob [General Questions]

So I am a complete noob at this. I just saw Unreal 4 and went, “ooh, I know c++, this’ll be cake, right?” Wrong. I have several questions. I am using unreal editor and building my game as a mod, because that’s easy. First, how do I make a weapon blueprint? Second, how do I change the texture of the main character? Third, does anyone know where I can get stock meshes, textures, etc?

Thanks all.

Some meshes are on marketplace, but you should for now look trough content examples. Those have free textures, meshes and examples for you learning, cannot be used in commercial product.
There is also free fps game demo.

To change texture of your character you need its uv map (not easy to get without source 3d file) then you paint your own texture then you modify or create material tha uses it. And finally apply material to character.

But for now dig in into all free examples you have in your unreal launcher thingy.

I thought you could use those assets for commercial products.

meshes/textures -> from the marketplace, :/// ://www.blendswap/ ://www.cgtextures/
weapon blueprint -> study the templates and samples or take a look at the videos on youtube :slight_smile:

“Those have free textures, meshes and examples for you learning, cannot be used in commercial product.”
Yeah? Wait! What?
Has something changed? All sample content and free stuff on marketplace can still be used commercially? Right?

You are still allowed to use the marketplace stuff in your project :wink:

What can I do with content I obtain from the Marketplace and Learn tab?

Besides using this content for learning, experimenting, and prototyping, you can also ship it in your own products too! However, you can’t sell or sublicense Marketplace content to other developers for use in their products, e.g. via web site or e-commerce mechanism built into a 3D development tool.
