Tools for making 2D animations for UE4 flipbooks?

I’m wanting to know what is the standard procedure is for making 2D animations for flipbooks (Character movement animation) in UE4? What software is used by the community or do people just paint it out in Photoshop?.. seems abit tedious to me.

Thanks.

I personally paint them in photoshop or gimp  But for example you could use programs like algodoo where you can paint your character + animate them (so you just have to paint the char, after that you an create the different states with animating it)

as well as what said you could also render images of animating meshes in a 3D app and then use those images to create your flipbooks.

Thanks heaps for the feedback! Gave me a few ideas also going to try Algodoo out

Thanks.
