Game overview
Toby the Brave is a oldschool platformer in fantasy setting, where player controls character in 2D but moves in 3D.
It’s a mix of Crash Bandicoot and Pandemonium. It tells a story about hero who want to turn back the curse, before his village extincts.

Game features:

  • Unique controls for platformer - controls 2D space but moving in 3D
  • 5 different lands
  • Various types of gameplay like horse riding and dragon flying
  • Cinematic gameplay camera

Story
Many years ago, evil witch was casting weird curses on villages. In one everyone was speaking with birds voice, in other everyone has grown a tail.
For Woodland village witch cause that only baby girls are born.
Last resident who was born as a boy, is named Toby. He’s also main hero which player play with.
Toby decide to find witch and find out how to turn back the curse.

The development seems quite easy to do, but the concept kinda cool. although nice one.

OK, the best I could do

The game got hard towards the end there. I have never played a game with so many different camera angles! There were 2 things that made it difficult for me as a player. The first is that I feel like I need more air control. This can be seen especially at the end of the level, the scene with a falling platform followed by a box followed by a spinning spike platform - I kept trying to jump on all three but the lack of air control usually made me hit the box collider and fall to my death.

The 2nd thing is that some of the camera transitions feel very abrubt, maybe continuously interpolating between points in the camera track could help here. Keep at it!

Thanks for playing and feedback!

Can you tell me more about your camera issues? Can you give me specs of your PC?

Thanks!

It’s not a performance issue. The best way to describe it is that it can be reproduced by rapidly crossing the threshold between 2 camera tracks. When you cross the threshold, the camera lurches a bit which can make your eyes dance a bit to keep focus on the player.

Toby the Brave is now on Groupes.com!

I just got a greenlight! Steam Greenlight::Toby the Brave
