To many to none components, but Meshroom gives me perfect scan out of the box?!

Hey guys,

i’m really confused and a little bit frustrated, too.

I’m trying to do a model out of images of a pumpkin (don’t ask me why) and RC gets absolutely nothing out of it, no matter what i do.

Shots where taken with a Nikon D5300 and the image in my zip-file resembles the quality of all images taken into consideration.

I tried several things discussed in this forum, you can see my settings for alignment in the other picture of the RC alignment.

Well so i thought my images where to flat or something, but i thought about what an alternative would make out of my images before i retook them all.

And, well, Meshroom gave me some really good results without changing any options and just loading my images in, as you can see in the third image.

So my question would be: How can this even be the case? What settings should i change to achieve the same result as with a FREE software, that undoubtedly takes it’s time but gives me results in the end at least?

Hello,

From images that you attached i can see that you photograph your object with turntable.

To make this correctly have to have visible parts of turntable in the all images. It would be best that you have markers on the turntable itself. It is important to have unified background.

May be this tutorial will be helpful to you too : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSbI9PHiB4E&feature=youtu.be

This topic was already discussed many times in this forum, for example please check this thred: https://support.capturingreality.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115000773791-Turntable-shooting-scenario

Hey thx for answering.

Yes you are right, it’s a turntable shot (should have added this info in the first place).

Shooting this object it’s quite hard to get a part of the turntable into the view, but concerning the markers:

  • Do you have any recommendations on markers and their size in comparison with the object?

  • I guess the markers should be on a fixed position so not on the turntable itself?

  • Do the markers have to be sharp or is it enough if they are recognisable?

  • Should an object of this kind appear always in full view or is it okay to make 1-2 takes on the full view and then go into detail-shooting?

I know there are some topics that almost match my request, but i couldn’t  really get any usable infos out of them.

  1. As marker you can use anything that will give texture to the turntable it could be even newspaper.

  2. actually it is important to have it on turntable, only by this RC will interpret and calculate camera position - as it you would move around the object.

  3. It is important to have sharp images, in whole project as blurry images will affect quality of final results.

  4. yes it is good idea to make pictures of the full view and then cover all small details.
