Tips on how to start developing the skills needed for Unreal Engine 4

Hello everybody.
im currently learning to use Unreal Engine 4 and already past the basics.
i used some tutorials from Unreal in youtube and also about 5-6 courses from Digital Tutors but i feel like i still dont know how to do anything by myself.
everytime i try to create something by myself, i miss crucial steps and i fail to finish anything by myself.
i am currently on my second year of Program Engineering and know C++ pretty good.
im looking to learn the programing and blueprints of Unreal Engine and less about graphics.

i was looking for tips on how to actually practice what i learn effectively so i can start doing some work by myself and not going to the tutorials for every step.
even good tutorials for understanding unreal engine and not just a step by step guide will be lovely.

thanks in advance for any help

The best way to learn the engine is to start a small project -> during that you will learn everything that you need. When you have any problems just post your question here into the forum and we will help you.

Beside that take a look at:
https://docs.unrealengine/latest/INT/
https://wiki.unrealengine/Main_Page
https://wiki.unrealengine/Videos

the question is: should i start a project from scratch or should i use Unreal assets and if so, which ones?

also, thanks for the quick and friendly reply

When you dont want to do anything in the art section of the ue4, I would recommend you to just use one of the templates (3rd person, fps,…) + the assets from some of the free marketplace items

ok, ill try that. thanks a lot
