I’ve recently started working on a new small game. At the moment, it’s called Tiny City Builder (yeah, not the most original name, but it’s a placeholder for now).
The game is a relaxing, sandbox, grid-based city builder, taking inspiration from Tiny Glade and Townscaper.
Currently, I want the game to have the ability to play with a first-person character in the world and capture screenshots of the cozy, beautiful moments of the city skyline.
I’m planning to add a lot of “living” elements to the city to enhance the vibe and feel, like cars, animals, etc.
I absolutely adore city builders. I typically stick to medieval themed ones but the art style for this looks so polished and fun I would have to try it out Do you currently plan on adding “beautification” elements that boost the city in any capacity? Adding flowers and trees to my towns is my nerdy obsession
I absolutely love this. As someone who does worldbuilding, games like this help me out with visualization big time. A lot of the town builders are more medieval themed but I have a Vampire: The Masquerade game that is set in a city, but I’ve not been able to find anything to help me really visualize the city better.
I’ll absolutely be following this closely and I can’t wait to see where you go with it! Keep it up!
Great! I believe tiny glade uses some kind of Wave Function Collapse, there were some talks from the developer when he did townscaper. In any case, since that is beyond my understanding, I will suggest another approach to make the construction more easy.
Each time you place a tile check the 8 surrounding tiles to review for the right one.
The easiest sample will be the road. If you put two roads together, they will both be oriented in the same direction. If you add a third one on the line, it will keep the same direction, but if it makes a corner, it will change the direction, and the previous road will be changed to a corner tile.
With that you will not need to switch the kind of tile all the time, just choose the kind: road, path…
