Hello, i’m having a big problem. In unreal engine 5, when i open a mesh for example, background of the thumbnail turn black. And therefore some things are invisible, is there any way to make it stay like it was before ? Thank !
I know it’s awful. Make this a voteable topic
would love to if i knew how !
I just spent hours digging through engine settings and found a workaround!! I had a ton of darker assets and literally could not kitbash my environment together…
In your Content Browser settings enable “Show Engine Content”
Scroll down to the Content Browser Engine folder, search for both FloorPlaneMaterial and SkySphereMaterial
When you open each of these you can manually adjust the Base Color. The FloorPlane will be most of your thumbnail, the SkySphere is the top little bit of the thumbnail. You can set these however you’d like but FloorPlane 0.1 and SkySphere 0.12 is a pretty decent medium grey.
Its not perfect but omg i can see my assets again!!
FAB
FYI this also fixes the Foliage Tool issue where you couldn’t see which assets you had checked on without hovering over each individually. Once your thumbnails are medium grey your selected foliage assets will be highlighted lighter. Seems someone used multiply for the foliage tool and multiply on black is just black.
WOW i can’t thank you enough for this …
I found the best result for me would be
0.06 in the “V” value in the FloorPlaneMaterial
0.45 in the “V” value in the SkySphereMaterial
I think these are the closest values of previous thumbnail of 4.27
They changed it the way it was it’s different now. you change the base color directly.
Incredible they took time to change it and to put it black again… was is wrong with them seriously.
New values i think are good values
skysphere: B5B5B5FF
plane: 1B1B1BFF
I searched, but cannot find “FloorPlaneMaterial” or “SkySphereMaterial”. One by one as I click on them, my thumbnails turn black. Anbnoying.
You need to enable Show Engine Content in your content browser settings when you click the little gear icon in the corner. Then scroll down to the Engine folder. With that highlighted you can search for the two materials I mentioned
