As a complete n00b to Witcher, I really want to start playing it, but do you have to play through the first two games first?

If it’s like the transition from witcher 1 to witcher 2, you don’t HAVE to but it will be a better experience. The main storyline in the witcher 2 doesn’t touch the witcher 1, but you don’t know the characters, the backstory to the world, references to previous games, etc. It is not mandatory but it is nice.
