I can’t see the hype, the writing was so bad with the first and second Witcher, I had to stop playing. Normally, I would just look past that and have fun, but this transcended poorly written. I wondered if I was reading some sort of unfamiliar self-aware fan-fiction at points.

Have you been able to play Witcher 3 yet? I’m curious what you think of the writing and what your criticisms might be. Personally, I’ve found the overall story arc to be well plotted, and the dialogue to be well done so it would probably be instructive to hear the counter argument for sure.
I do notice that most of the dialogue scenes are exposition heavy and the blocking amounts to ‘people standing around talking to each other’, which doesn’t make for great filmmaking, but I’m unsure of how you’d solve that in an interactive setting. GTA and Dead Redemption made good use of travel time to have conversations between characters, and that certainly felt less static but wasn’t a perfect solution either.
