The Wednesday Marketplace Update

Does anyone keep looking at the Launcher on Wednesdays besides me?

I’m always interested in what is new. Wednesday is one of my most eager days as I hope something I can make use of pops up here for less than $50. I’m just sitting here waiting for today’s update and realized I’m far too enthusiastic for it.

<3

Day made. Hearing things like this are awesome. I just linked this thread to the team. Thank you! Working on today’s update now… stay tuned!

It even has a new category! Architectual Visualization!!

Marketplace has so many items, it needs a search! (in the launcher)

Yep, brand new category with pleeeeenty of incoming content to fill it! More on that in today’s blog post.

And yes, search is coming! We’re working on bringing the web Marketplace’s features to the launcher, including search, ratings and comments. Lots of stuff is coming up on the Marketplace, and seeing it improve week by week behind the scenes is exciting. Can’t wait to be able to talk about more.

Glad I could cheer you up.

Has there been any development plans towards producing a system like “Unity Web Player” where assets can be viewed or shared on the web? Definitely would remove a lot of the worry that some people might feel over an asset pack’s quality.

Wouldnt that make it possible to ‘rip’ the asset?? It has to be transported to the clients browser which means it can be intercepted.

: are there any plans to put each category on its own tab? My mouse scrollwheel is about to fail with all those items :stuck_out_tongue:

I do not know if that is an issue with Unity. Regardless of whether that happens or not, all assets will invariably be available for pirating eventually. The pirates will pirate and people will buy when they buy. The end user experience should not suffer as a result of trying to forestall the inevitable.

I thought it was Thursdays, so it’s Wednesdays? I check the blog every day though so I guess it doesn’t matter. =P

Every Wednesday. The blog does not get updated till Thursday I’ve noticed. You can see the new stuff already in the Marketplace tab. Kind of wish I’d held off on the PBR Lights pack because the new Basic Light Functions pack is better. Oh well, looks like I’ve got two light packs now.

I think that we should have a 24 - 72hr refund period for our items, I have never bought any, nor do I plan to buy any marketplace items until we have some sort of refund system. As far as pirating goes, good luck publishing a game that contains content that you don’t have the proper licenses for.

The refund policy is better than Unity’s which requires the seller to consent rather than Epic Games to decide. The reality is that if you refund an asset–you still have the asset. This creates an easily abusable situation.

Yes we do! I don’t have an ETA on it, but it’s something we’re working on internally. Ease of use and security are our key priorities for that.

We’re looking into the security implications of that sort of thing to see if we can do it safely.

And yes, we’re going to be breaking out the categories in a more friendly way soon. We’re working on bringing the web Marketplace features into the launcher, and that’ll give us more flexibility with layout options beyond simple categorization.

It’s generally Wednesdays, but sometimes the blog doesn’t go out until Thursday if the release was late in the day. I want to make sure maximum eyeballs are on the blog post at a convenient time of day.
