The Unreal Marketplace Improvement and Feedback Thread

[=KitatusStudios;430996]

But those are the gripping issues that are turning me away from purchasing content from the Marketplace. I’ve also noticed some of the submission “Has to include a video” isn’t being adhered to .etc but that’s a story for another day.
[/]

Preach on! As a relatively new user of Unreal, and certainly at the beginning of my time with the engine, without the videos, I found myself lost.

I would like to add a further frustration. What is the deal with updates!!! 4.10 came out a while back and Substance has been available for it since the pre-releases, and yet, it still isn’t upgradable through the Marketplace. Using the GitHub and Visual is not for the feint of heart. For the life of me, I can’t see what is preventing essential plugins from seeing the light of day.

Get it together guys.

We do recognize that is a concern for a lot of people, currently our process for updates is very manual and the Marketplace has grown substantially. We are looking into strategies and updates for the next time around to make all of much easier and faster for both us and the sellers on the Marketplace to get content updated for each engine version. We should have more on that as things develop but please know we are aware of the and in addition to actively updating the content as fast as we can, we are also working on ways to address .

In the meantime, if you notice any issues with a particular pack that you have please let us know, we may have the update and can give a timeline on when that update will be ready.

Thanks,

Hi Kitatus,

I wanted to reach out to you regarding your concerns with the Marketplace:

  1. If a submission provides value for our customers, we will accept any assets regardless whether they’ve been done before . The Marketplace may have similar instances of certain props, blueprints, etc. to choose from, but all of them have their own art style and value to add to the Marketplace.

  2. All of the packs on the Marketplace provide their own flavor to offer and may be a better fit for someone than an internal function. In addition, we make sure that these packs do also bring more to the table then just the main . We accept simple assets so that people who have a specific, but common mechanic can have it already done for them

  3. We looked at pack and we found the section of blueprint you showed here. While it is messy, it is understandable and functions as intended. We will give him the feedback to clean up, however, as a general rule for blueprints we can’t guarantee that it will be aesthetically clean but we do test to make sure the blueprints function and nothing is obfuscated

If you have any further questions or concerns, please reach out to or myself through pm.

Thank you,

I have to agree with Kitatus on one. I have purchased and handful of MP items but as of the past few months I haven’t. A lot of that has to do with what he says above and some of my own issues. I don’t want to specifically call out the particular items I’m thinking of, but I’ve bought a few items that I later found out were created with another tool and very little effort was put into it. I felt a little cheated to be honest because I would’ve just did it myself, I suppose it’s my own fault. And because of that I’m a lot more careful. Like kitatus said, no more impulse buying. However my point of quoting reply, is because I feel is not satisfactory response.

I think that support response times could be improved. I am currently going 15+ days without a response for something was emailing with me about, and I created a duplicate now that has left, and that is going on 12 days without a response (I bumped it today).

----- The Duplication of Assets -----

[/]

I understand your point, and somewhat agree, but realistically different implementations of similar things often offer different stuff, be it set up, or expandiblity, etc. Why limit it to the first person to come up with an idea and get it on the marketplace being the only option? Honestly that would drive me away from the marketplace 110% because some of the stuff is far too limited…

[]

----- Messy Blueprints -----

[/]

I always try to make my BP’s readable, but sometimes, depending on what you are doing, there is just spaghetti everywhere… I’d like to see a tutorial on how to clean up stuff like that… though not sure what could be done other than collapsing a lot of nodes, and then it still takes forever to trace through everything.

There are Epic assets in there they have not updated to 4.10 yet. It’s crazy.

Pretty sad when Unreal users are driven to the UNITY store to find things…

If something goes without updates for 5 business days then post on forums to , as she mentioned earlier.
I hope we will get scale problem fixed by new Epic stuff, not by reduced seller content :frowning:

I don’t think they will be downsizing seller content. More content is good for Epic’s business. The only solution is to expand the marketplace staff to account for the growth of production. I remember saying just before he left that he was in talks with the higher ups at Epic about increasing the team size to account for the growth. I’m sure or whoever else is running the team now will be advocating the same. Last I heard the team size was about 5. I’m not sure if was counted among that number either. For now the team is doing the best they can with what they have. While I’m sure it can be frustrating to have long periods before hearing back, they want marketplace to work just as efficiently as the sellers/consumers do. We’ll get there. =)

I would like to add for us intermediate noobs, lack of clear documentation…

Hi … I thought the process was supposed to be automated with the release of 4.10? I thought wrote something about that…?

Nah, I mean that we will get less sellers due to slow operations. Expanding is mandatory IMHO and should be done asap, because current doing a lot of work, but they physically incapable to operate on amount of tickets and generating bad vibes around Marketplace for second month already :frowning:

I wanted to put little pack to accompany SuperGrid, but realized that release process could take up to 45 days and just got real sad. When I was working on big pack such time was okay, but when you got something cool and just want to release it - waiting for 45 days is a bummer. And it may take up much more due to current state of the Marketplace.

I don’t want to be that guy, but in Unity AS people get angry after 10 days of waiting for approval(approval = release). Of course sometimes you can wait for 10 days just to be said that your title is incorrect or something and they don’t help at all with releasing, just reject/approve, but still…

He was a part of the team I believe - he was answering at so I guess it’s a part of job
If you think about it… Team just become smaller instead of getting bigger =/

I see what you mean now. I haven’t submitted a new pack since the summer. Back then it took about a month for it to have been released on the marketplace. If the 45 days is current then it seems it has increased a little. More hands would definitely help smooth things over with . It seems the current team has to wear a lot of hats: handling submissions, updates, customer and seller support, new features, etc. It may be better to have dedicated teams focus on specific areas. That way when a new engine version is released the team doesn’t have to put new submissions on hold while they sort through the new updates for example. But I do agree with you on the submission wait. I’m gearing up to submit a few packs soon, and the month or so wait for it to be approved followed by the month before you see how it does is a pretty long time. We were supposed to be getting the sales portal year, but haven’t heard anything about it since departed. It can definitely be frustrating as someone who’s doing full time. =/

Pretty much, I’d have many more packs on the marketplace if I knew it would go by quickly, as I don’t want to make an inventory system and wait 2-3 months for it to be published.

Seller portal will “remove” whole update pipeline from , so maybe it is the reason they don’t want to increase heavily team size? If they know that in future amount of work will go down then increasing current team size may be not cost-efficient.

In last livestream said that he was looking at new Launcher Marketplace with all new features and it coming soon. I guess seller portal will be worked on after Launcher overhaul goes live. At least I hope so.

I remember there were mentions before of manual updating. If that were to coincide with the sales reports that would be great. I haven’t had a to look at the previous livestream, sounds like I should check it out. =)

if new users of the engine wants to see how to do some common mechanics and bought a spaghetti dish from the marketplace, quite likely they will walk away immediately thinking engine is outside their intellect. quality control in blueprint graphs is important.

Hey all,

Thanks for bringing up your concerns regarding Marketplace assets, and thanks for diving in to address some of these

To reiterate, we aim to make Marketplace a place that provides high quality assets from great creators to great developers, and feedback like helps us ensure that we are on point in pursuing that goal. We’re discussing now how we can address some of these concerns in attempt to ease the pain points described in recent posts.

… Consider adding multple categories for feedback… For example, have a star system for the following:

Overall:
Documentation:
Support:
Maintenance Releases:

I’ve purchased things that are still on 4.8… So, I would mark down the maintenance release… I’ve also purchased products that have zero documentation…also, not good. These things would be invaluable for others to know. AND, more importantly, it would let would be developers know what is excepted from them…

Anyway, just some thoughts…

PS: I’ve roamed the Unity store and forums and wow, there is some really cruddy stuff. I hope our store doesn’t turn out like theirs. It would mean possible reduced revenue on the part of Epic, but the reputation of UE4 is one of high quality and having a store like Unity might shatter that image.

I’ve completely stopped submitting content to the marketplace. I was doing pretty decent (as I have posted sales stats in the other relevant thread). I saw the current trend once I completed my final release. The submission process was taking a full month at the minimum and was creeping up to 6 weeks. In addition to that your sales data and receiving payment were so disconnected.

is my last submission (Zipline/Teleport/JumpPad):

  1. Submit mid May
  2. Release July 22nd
  3. September 10th: Email with sales data for month of July (One week worth).
  4. Payment September 14th

That is 4 months until I receive any kind of sales data at all and only a weeks worth at that. is from someone who had already 3 assets already published. There were some issues in between there resulting in the delay that I won’t go into.

Even if I give them the benefit of the doubt is a best case scenario for turn around time you can have to receiving worthwhile sales data reliably.

  1. Submit December 1st.
  2. They reply the next day. Say, “Wow is great we will schedule it for release right away!”
  3. December 7th, "We have set your release for 3-4 weeks in advance (January 1st).
  4. All of December your asset is finished, polished, looks great and is ready to go. But it isn’t for sale.
  5. January 1st finally arrives after a really smooth submission process. Congrats people can purchase.
  6. Wait
  7. February 1st arrives. Wow awesome I wonder how many units were purchased?
  8. Email marketplace support to see if you can get some early numbers on your sales.
  9. Email gets lost in the ZenDesk system like it does nearly every time.
  10. Throw a DM on twitter because you have built a report with him over the past year and he’s helped with sales data before (he’s gone now, no help there)
  11. All of Februrary goes by with your asset selling. No sales data
  12. March 7th: receive an email with your sales data for January
  13. March 14th: payment

You submit the asset on December 1st. You can expect to receive sales data in 3 MONTHS. Does anybody else see a problem here? In June I was told live sales data in the seller’s portal was coming soon!! We are coming up on a half a year later. That is not soon. marketplace has been open for a year and that is the best case scenario above?

No retailer on the planet would be okay doing business like that. Doing business completely blind with no ability to adjust marketing, prices, or trends. I’m not even going to get into my struggles to get a sale established for my asset store which I was in talks with for longer than I can remember until eventually your ticket gets lost in some really horrible email system. I’m not even going to go into my horrible experience with updating my assets. I am an established highly rated asset publisher and I can’t update my assets the exact second they are ready for my customers? Then I have to field support emails and forum complaints that things are not updated?

I had high hopes for a long time and wanted to be apart of marketplace for the long run, but now I am just upset and disappointed. I know from speaking with other sellers that I am not alone in feeling. Now is gone and it is clear there is no direction established or being controlled. At least it isn’t being discussed publicly or at the very least in a private section of the forums for sellers like I suggested I can’t count how many times over the past year.

WOW . Seems for all the messages about how they care and how they are working on it, nothing really is happening. I had a few ideas for things on the Marketplace, but why bother. Seems selling elsewhere is the way to go… why give them a cut at all if they are not on top of things?
