UEFN is taking away motivation and any desire to create, because of how sluggish it feels. But besides that, there are issues that just straight up create frustration, and when in Creative I would have made a level, in UEFN I make a “task”. Here are some of the culprits:
-
Pushing changes doesn’t respect the post game spawn location, it instead spawns you in spawn pads. This makes it so I have to fly all the way to the test location everytime.
-
Pushing changes takes a lot of time still. Which makes it so that you forget what you are doing OR randomly forget you are doing gamedev and just surf the net or socials endlessly, massively losing productivity. Editing ANYTHING in UEFN during this process will crash live edit, so its lost time 100% of the time you wait.
-
Everytime I push changes, there is a file that will always upload (its 7-10mb) and it slows down the process, idk why this file has to constantly upload and why its so big (even if I change nothing).
-
Live edit loses its sync status VERY easily, which causes me to repeat the push changes process almost at every action I do (steps 1-3). I am not talking about changes that you can still be working on in live edit, I am talking the yellow upload symbol appearing very frequently and causing an actual desync where you add things in live edit and they don’t show in UEFN, or UEFN loses references of newly placed meshes due to live edit replacing them with the red cube.
-
After ending game, the player will fly down 5 floors worth of Z, making you lose once again the test location.
It only takes 5 mins of working with UEFN to get frustrated, and in Creative I almost never had frustration building anything. Please start looking at UX seriously and make UEFN more enjoyable to build, or creators will simply aim at specific goals without innovating or putting passion to it.
