The Redirector filter in the Content Browser only shows redirectors.

In the Content Browser, one can see the redirectors by using the appropriate filter.

In older versions of the engine, prior to 5.4, using that filter would also leave other files visible.

Now, using the filter ONLY shows redirector files, which makes browsing and hunting them down way more difficult.
One cannot just leave the filter on all the time anymore.

This is the filter being OFF (the existing files in the folder are visible).

Now the same folder with the filter ON.
I don’t have any redirector in that folder, but in previous engine versions the other assets would still be visible.

This is another screenshot showing how it is in a folder that actually contains redirectors.

Think it has always been the intended behavior to only show you assets matching the filter criteria on and under the folder you have selected.

What would be the point of filters if they also show you files you’re not filtering for?

Well it’s how it has always worked before for the Redirector filter.
The point here is to leave it on so you can work normally, whilst allowing any Redirector you (or your dear colleagues) might have left behind, and clean them up as you go along.

The point isn’t so much how it should work. It just used to work some way before and Epic changes stuff that people are used to. Instead of changing the behavior altogether, they should at least expose an option for it (which I did not find in the Content Browser settings, but maybe there is one somewhere else, in the editor settings for example?)

Aaaaah never mind, an awesome colleague of mine just reminded me the filter I am after was in another place.
Instead of Miscellaneous > Redirector, you wanna use Other Filters > Show Redirectors.

Life is better now <3
