The ocean breaks my landscape textures

How do you fix the textures from breaking when adding an ocean to your build. I added an ocean to my map and all the textures disappeared and the whole map is grey besides the trees and props.

Hello Ethan, Welcome to the Forums.

It might be helpful if you attach a screenshot of what you’re seeing.

Also, is it possible to reproduce this in a new level?

Hi i wasnt able to because when i made this post i was on my way to school. But when i get home in 2 hours i will. Im not sure if its possible for anyone else to try since i have the default setting on. i imported the chapter 2 map and added all the props a misc items but i jus needed to add the ocean and when i did it broke the textures for my map. Also im not trying to remake the map and post it , i already know thats against the rules im just doing this for fun.

just added the picture hopefully theres a fix for this

Thanks for the Image,

The first thing I wonder is if the imported ground is using Unreals ‘Landscape’ system (did you import a heightmap) or if it’s a Static Mesh (or collection of static meshes).

It’s strange that adding an ocean would break any textures.

The second thing I wonder if it’s breaking because of size, so I’d experiment with a very small segment to see if the largeness of the map is the problem.

I tryed adding the ocean first before importing the map to see if that fixs it but when I Import the textures there checker boxed. (Yes it is a heightmap for chapter 2 season 1)

It could be a size issue, try turning your Scalability to Low see if that helps.

Otherwise check your landscape paint layers are still OK, my layer info disappeared on a very large terrain a few weeks ago, lucky I hadn’t started painting details yet.

Im kinda new to all this so where can you change the scalability

But if you’ve left the project open while you were at school, it would have eventually shown your landscape textures.
I’m inclined to think you’ve lost your paint layers, so check your Landscape Mode> Paint tab and scroll down, post a pic if you can’t tell if they’re good or bad.

Ok I’ll try that thx. :+1:

Sorry for not telling you eariler but i check yesterday and it worked thanks so much man.
