The most simple game one can make with UE 5?

I have been using Unreal on and off since around 2017, then lost interest 2 years ago and want to get back to it. This time around, I only want to finish things and not get stuck in tutorials and experiments.

I have limited cognition stamina and my old Mac can barely keep up. My only focus atm. is gameplay, package and play test. No one else will play this, it is an effort to find the Unreal passion again.

This will have to be 3D or 2.5D as the 2D part is not for me.

I know the engine very well and want to make my own one day game jams to get that feeling of accomplishment.

Hey @Engineering_Visions!

That is largely up to debate, but if you are looking for straight forward mechanics the easiest games you can make are probably shooting galleries or platformers in my opinion.

Good luck with completing your game!

Greetings @Quetzalcodename

I don’t know if it’s helpful. But, I personally like to play around with aim trainers. It’s one of the easier games to make, if you want to call it a ‘game’. It’s useful and you can make a lot of variations with simple mesh changes. I hope that’s helpful!

That does make sense. I had been thinking about a dead-zone aiming mechanism to shoot down things that get airdropped randomly from above across “the horizon axis.”

Thank you for the inspiration!

Sounds like a shooting gallery is on the way. Thank you for the response!

Get retro game simulator, get some 8-bit games, pick one.
Or watch some youtube retro clips.

List of very simple 8-bit games to recreate:
Moon Patrol Car, dropzone, Joust, asteroids, last starfighter, gyrrus.

So make vertical sl;ice/prototype based on one of them, then you can expand a bit.
