The Mage [UE5] - An Action Short

Hey everyone! My library was locked and loaded after the Black Friday sale, and I wanted to dive into ICVFX inside UE5 for the first time since starting to create. I’ve always focused on dialogue and Metahumans, and this time I’ve stepped out of that comfort zone to tackle something that’s been on my list for a minute: action!

I’ve been sick over the past few days and instead of laying in bed I wanted to see what I could whip together. As usual, a scene rolled into two, and more, and before I knew it, I was adding SFX to the whole short.

Let me know what you guys think, and all critiques are definitely appreciated! (other than his floating head… yeah… lol) Disclaimer: I am not an audio engineer, so if the sound is rough, sorry haha.

So here’s “The Mage”, a fun proof-of-concept for some action scene ideas I have for bigger projects and as mentioned, a first dive into VFX inside UE5 for me.

Wow! Such action! Such amazement! Such awesome sauce!

I really was not expecting the impact of the action sequence that came across the screen! This is stellar! The way the sun rays penetrated through the trees, as the brave mage and his fearless steed sped through the forest to confront the evil within was tension-building excitement!

The enemy was terrifying - like an untamed bull charging and ready to kill!..But our mage was unmoved. The slo-mo moment and the visual effects of the staff are stunning! For your first dive into VFX in UE5, this was a job well done!

Way to be productive on your down time! I do hope you feel better soon!
