Here is my first full short film created in Unreal Engine 5! It was a great learning experience with many bumps along the way - overall I’m extremely happy with how it turned out. Heavily inspired by films such as Alien (Ridley Scott, 1979).
There are many things to still improve, so I’m happy to receive any feedback!
Wow! Are you positive this is your first full-fledged short film? Judging from the quality of this work, I’d assume you’ve been developing cinematics like this for years! Everything is spot on, from the lighting, audio queues, asset quality, etc. You did a fantastic job with this creation; I only wish it was longer.
This honestly gave me the chills. Seeing the person walking down the hallway with their eyes flickering in fear was such an emotionally powerful moment. Definitely look forward to seeing your future cinematics
Thanks for the kind words @Zezkaii ! I’ve worked on student live-action shorts before as a video editor but this is my first one in Unreal Engine! I’m glad you liked it!
Ah ha! I am also a fellow Alien enthusiast. Your cinematic is a fascinating thriller with spine-tingling tension! I love the way you built the suspense here! It’s reminiscent of Aliens when Newt was in the bowels of the ship, and the xenomorph rose up eerily behind her.
I see that your background is in Film Production. After graduating, did you immediately begin your career as a freelancer before finding a studio to work with, or had you been working on projects while still a student at university? Was it your plan to build your portfolio through freelance work before submitting a proposal to a studio? Of the gaming projects that you have worked on, which was your favorite and why?
I did a degree in Film Production, after graduating I freelanced for a bit but eventually settled on a Video Editing / Motion Design job at an agency. Recently, I’ve moved into games working in a studio’s video/marketing department (trailers). I plan to build my portfolio a bit so I can transition into a more cinematic-centric role. My favorite game I’ve worked on so far is a tie between Evil Genuis 2 and Sniper Elite 5 both for totally different reasons!
