It’s been quite a while since the forums were redesigned, I think about a year, and even after a year I am still unable to get used to the new forum. As a result, I visit here way less frequent, even though I would love to post more content and help people answer more questions.
Back when the forum were more vanilla discourse, I loved using it, but the problem with the new forum is extreme visual noise overload. The combination of the theme, layout, font colors and sizes just makes the forum very visually noisy making looking for specific content a game of finding Waldo.
The pinned topic bloat also doesn’t help, as opening any forum subsection immediately populates two thirds of the screen space with years old inactive threads at the top. This is on top of the fact that the header takes 30% of the vertical space on its own. It’s not uncommon to open for example Rendering section of the forum just to see the recent topics occupying only about 20% of the entire screen area, and their titles drowning in the sea of tags, icons, and so on…
I think the whole site needs redesign to something way more cleaner and calmer. I love visiting many other Discourse based forums, such as Blender Artists, Blender Devtalk, etc… So the Discourse itself is certainly not the issue.
Can we just please get a clean simple discourse forums where the star of the show is the forum content itself (posts) not the UI elements?
It makes me really sad that I used to do be able to keep up with what’s going on on the UE forums prior to redesign, and past year or so I am just unable to do so. And it’s not because of the amount of content, but because of the terrible redesign which throws so many obstacles between my attention and the content people post.
