The Epic Games Launcher Setup Wizard Ended Prematurely

So I downloaded the launcher for windows and tried to install it, only to receive this message after it does the validation check.

Being a .msi package it took a bit of jiggery pokery to force it to install as administrator

but that didn’t work anyway.

Also tried changing the install directory to no avail. Stupid thing doesn’t actually say what the error was making it ■■■■ difficult to troubleshoot myself.

Sys specs:

Win 7 64bit
AMD Phenom II x4 955
4GB RAM

(yes I know I need moar RAM I just wanted to road test it before I buy any more. Never had issues with UDK.)

It’s Windows Installer mentality to not inform user whats gone wrong, it’s not Epic Games fault. You would need to dive in to installer logs to find out, google it. You might also find some info in system logs (right click “computer” and then “manage”, you will find system logs there)

Try to read this, it may guide u a little

i know, windows installer is annoying in how forthcoming with data it is.
meant to upload the log last night but it seems it didnt work -_-

trying again.

Hi alexbolam,

Did the info Omar provided above help you fix the issue?

No unfortunately

Hi Alex,

I checked your logs and it looks like this might be an issue with permissions. Try these solutions out:

  • Make sure you’re running as Admin
  • You’ve lowered User Account Controls (UAC)
  • Check to see if you have read/write access to where ever you’re installing to.

Hi alexbolam,

We haven’t heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you’re still experiencing this issue, please try the suggestions that Maximusdb3 posted above and get back to us.

Cheers,

TJ

I’m not even getting a crash screen. It finishes installing DirectX and then the progress bar restarts, saying ‘cleaning up backups’ [or something very close to that], and then just disappears. No ‘next’, no crash notice, just >poof<, gone. The Launcher logo has been created on my desktop, but other than 2-3 seconds of ‘busy’ cursor, nothing happens when I try to launch it. Running as admin on Win 7, Phenom 9500, 6 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430, have checked permissions, etc.
I’m stumped.

Hi tolltroll,

Try the suggestions in this section of the troubleshooting guide.

You may also have luck with the accepted answer in this post.

If nothing works, post a new report in the Installation & Setup section and include your install logs described in that first link.

Thanks,

TJ

i have the same problem.I tried the solutions u guys suggested but it didnt solve the error.please help

For people using Windows 7 and cant login or play Fortnite because you have to uninstall it. There is one way to do it and that is by opening the start thing (bottom-left) and type in task manager. Click task managerand go to processes. You will find this thing called EpicGames.exe, Click on that and press end process. This will delete the program and a few other bits. But be aware that once you reinstall it, it might result in an unstable system.

just too add to this conversation im having the same exact issue.

Setap Wizard Laucher bad
so it will not let me start the game

This is happening to me too, sadly.

I have this problem The Epic Games Launcher Setup Wizard ended prematurey because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To instal this program at a later time run Setup Wizard again.

same issue here, kindly share if you found a solution

I solved the problem by making a new folder in root C:
Then choosing that as my install location when the install asks
