The Case for a Lighter Unreal Engine: Performance vs. Feature Overload

Unreal should offer a ‘lite’ version, where you download a lightweight base similar to other engines and then install only the features you need as you go. Personally, I don’t use all of its features, yet I still have to wait hours just to get it up and running. This is making me reconsider using the engine altogether. It’s an incredibly powerful tool, but it’s becoming excessively heavy and unwieldy.

I’d be curious to learn more about your system specs if it’s taking hours to open a project.

There actually has been an initiative over the recent years for features to exist within plugins. (Go to Edit → Plugins)

For example, Niagara FX system exists as a plugin.
