The Adventures of Rob-1E

Hello world of fellow UE devs

We’ve been working on a game for about 10 years called The Adventures of Rob-1E.

When I say “We” I mean my brother and I. I do the coding, sound, music, lighting, my bro does the modeling, painting, rigging, environment & set design. We collaborate on overall design, animation and everything in-between.

It’s a twin-stick adventure. We started out in UE 4.3 and over the years as technology kept changing, it became our test bed for trying out all the new gizmos in the engine. In retrospect, this helped us get a lot of contract gigs, but it didn’t help us finish the game :weary:

So here we are, finally getting serious and sticking to things. We are starting out making a few cinematics to establish some backstory for the characters and hope to get to showing some prototypes in the near future as I finish the MASS (ecs) implementation for the core game.

This is the hero Rob-1E.

Here is the latest render we finished showing a probe bot exploring a derelict ship. This shows the original 7 frame storyboard vs the final render:

So far we’re rendering everything with deferred and lumen. I’ll post updates as we have them, if you have any questions feel free to ask, we’re an open book and happy to share anything learned.

Hi there @hyperdr1ve,

Welcome back to the Unreal Forums! Hope you’ve been well

I took a look at the steam page and all the still images are genuinely just stunning. In the most visually impactful way. I was expecting something a bit cartoony and silly with the cute robot but I was completely blown away. Incredible design from what I can see

What is your favorite part of the game if you dont mind me asking?

Ah thanks for checking us out, really appreciate it!

As a creative, my favorite part of the game is always the part I’m just about to implement , I’m sure others can relate. It’s hard to choose, but I’d say the unique little robots that join your team, we’ve put a lot of effort into the concepts and designs of these things and hope it will all come together in the end :crossed_fingers:.

I just blogged about this first cinematic we completed. I’m still new to blogging, but I’m going to try to keep up with it for our development.

Some prototype work on our game. Here I am prototyping heat conduction gameplay mechanics using MASS.
