Hi
Lately, I incurred into a problem I never had before.
I am currently mixing laser scanner data (7 stations grouped in point cloud rig1) and photo data (2562 cams).
LASER SCANNER SETTING
I imported one point cloud rig only for the alignment. Both following options (enable meshing & enable texturing and coloring) are set to DISABLE.
CAMS SETTING
Everything is default. Under prior pose, the absolute pose option is set to UNKNOWN.
The alignment and reconstruction phases are flawless.
The problem comes to the texturing phase. The process stops at PREPROCESSING MODEL 85% and RC doesn’t progress further on.
The software is still responsive, and it looks like that is doing something, but the CPU core activity on the task manager doesn’t show much activity. RAM utilization is stable too.
I left the PC processing for at least 24 hours in this state. Nothing happened.
Do you have any advice?
I have a similar situation using the Steam license. The material is different (only ca. 120 image files, processed with a setup which normally processes easily models of 500-700 similar images), but the “symptoms” are just the same =/
My other projects work well, but with this one I face this problem for over a week now, even when switching the computer (same steam license on another location) or starting the RC process again from beginning.
Hi,
this is a known bug and we are working on a fix, some images are getting stuck during texturing, for now the best workaround is to disable as many images for texturing as you think you can get away with. For instance any with an extremely large overlap. This is not a guaranteed fix, as you may not find the culprits first try.
Here the same problem! Is there any progress on fixing this bug?
Cheers
Hi maxionmaxion, what is your workflow there? What kind of data do you use? What are your texture settings?
It is a complicated model, stitching together 11 Components from multiple stages of an archaeological excavation by control points and tiepoints. 1800 48MP 16-bit texture layer images and 268 Smartphone images without texture layer. Here seems to be the problem - RC seems to have no fallback option when some images use texturelayer and some dont - I will fix this now and report back.
Cheers
Or on top of that - it could be impossible to combine 8bit texture with 16-bit texture images…
Did you select some images for texturing? How big model do you want to texture (500 bytes of storage for each triangle, or 1kb every 2 tris, or 1mb every 2000 tris, or 1 gb every 2 million tris, or 1tb every 2billion tris)?
Is is possible, that the model is created from not good aligned images, as you wrote, that it is from different stages?
So actually I want to texture a dense 420mio tris model, but for testing regarding the problem here I work with a 40 mio tris model with 60 x 8k textures - this is the optimal unwrap.
All images used for texturing do have a texture-layer now, also the smartphone images! However the smartphone images are not 16bit but 8.
Texturing gets stuck at around 80% preprocessing!
However the problem is with the Smartphone images - when I exclude them from texturing - preprocessing completes.
So during import 16 bit images you didn’t transform them into 8 bit?
What are your texture and unwrap settings?
Yes I did transform 16 bit to 8 bit for geometry layer.

Hi, what version do you have? As you wrote, this could be related to the smartphone images. Is it possible to create a texture just from them?
The mentioned bug should be solved now. I also tested use some images without texture layer and with texture layer in one project and it worked for me.
