Hi

I’m trying to mesh and texture a table with comments but:

  • in the mesh and in the texture are there some holes
  • the written words on table are not readable (they are in the pictures)
  • what is the meaning of :
  • texture utilization
  • texture quality
  • wich parameters can i change to improve the texture (and texture utilization and quality)?

A few hints :

-You can fill the holes with a 3D software like MeshMab, free to use. Export your 3D model to OBJ, open in Mesh Lab and try to use the “close holes” filter, export, reimport in RC.

-You can work on the texturing settings in Reconstruction->Settings : mainly the number of textures (try to raise it) and the texture resolution (8k or even 16k). You can also work at a fixed resolution (if your model is at scale), put the style to “Fixed texel resolution” and choose your resolution accordingly (with 0.001 m (1 texel => 1mm)), you should have a better text.

Texture utilization if the useful texture surface that you use : you’ll want a high number here (100% is impossible because the unwrapping is not perfect and you have some loss but as close to 100% as possible is good).

Texture quality is the quality of your current textures in regards to your pictures quality : 59% means that you have still some room to improve the texturing quality.

I followed your indications and i reached a 80 % texture utilization and more than 70% quality lowering the texel size to 0,6 mm/pixel.

The table was readble when the mesh lowered from 24 Mio to 10 Mio (Simplify).

I’ve tried with MeshLab but is very slow despite 64 Gb Ram and Quadro (with 8 Gb Ram) and until now has not worked very well.

Texture utilisation (with gutter) = percentage of used texels
Texture quality equals to the percentage of a texel size w.r.t. optimal texel size. It says about how the texture is detaild w.r.t. the maximal detail that you can get from images.

The texture count is increased a lot and the texture quality is constant (the same with different maximal texture resolution.

But i cannot visualize the texture (see attachment).

How can i visualize the texture?

Hello Stefano,
after unwrap textures aren’t calculated yet, so textures are filled with default checkerboard pattern.
It seems you just unwrapped your model and didn’t texture it.

But be careful with what you see in 3D view of the application. Textures you see in 3D may be downscaled to save memory.
To see full quality of the texture, please use Render button in WORKFLOW or RECONSTRUCTION tab.

Stefano, did you scale your model properly ? (by using a reference distance constraint).
If not, the texel size that you see is meaningless.

To work on a model in MeshLab, you need to simplify it a bit more. In the 500k-3M range, no more.
