Tessellation on landscape has literally never worked either well, or reliably.
I think they will create a quad tree version like they have for the water, since they implemented a quad tree system on water.
Mind you this is just speculation right now, but quad tree seems to be the best reduction technique for sculpting geometry in engine - and the landscape to some extent uses a bastardized version of it already with the lod mesh reduction, but the problem of the landscape is that it’s tied to an initial size and component when there really isn’t any need for it anymore (perhaps there never was, its just that thats what the engine had and it was slightly improved upon rather than scrapped).
Regardless, my point and pretty much everyone’s hope, is that they’ll scrap the whole system and allow us to generate an elliptical planetary approximation with gravity oriented at its center - or either way a controllable gravity vector for chaos.
Hope, mind you. Leila putting faith in Obi One was likely a far more realistic scenario
Oh yeah for sure most things develop like that as otherwise they would need to rewrite it from scratch which could take… a bit of time and money. Not sure how they are developing UE5 but I hope it is something that looks like it, and maybe your dreams will come true one day. We will know soon enough. Was UE5 planned for early 2021?
