Terrible performance when multiple windows open on RTX 5080

Hello, I’m currently running into a strange problem. After upgrading to an RTX 5080, whenever I have separated windows within the editor the performance tanks and I’m not getting more than 25-30 fps. So playing in a new window is not really possible anymore. I’ve previously had an RTX 3070 and 9070 XT without encountering these problems. I’ve tried disabling G-Sync and change some setting in the Nvidia control panel, but nothing seems to work. If anyone knows how to fix, I would appreciate the help.

This also happens when I drag out pins in graphs, right click, etc.

Hello there @Dannyboy730!

Checking around the community, there have been a few strange issues between UE’s latest versions, the RTX50 GPUs, and Win11. And these are affecting different features, including multi-window rendering. There a few steps to test here, let’s go one by one:

  • First of all, the most usual fix, clear up your current drivers install with DDU, then install the latest set of STUDIO drivers from nVidia’s site. Studio drivers are the most stable for engine work, and less prone to weird glitches

  • Next, look for any active overlays in your system, like XBOX Game Bar, nVidia Experience, or Discord’s (this one specially), and disable them all. Lately, there’s multiple hiccups with UE that dissapear after that

  • The 50 series GPUs have reports of conflict with HAGS in Win11, so disabling the feature should help here. For that, go to Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics > Default graphics settings, look for “Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling” and switch it off. Remember to restart your PC after that

  • FInally, we can disable Multiplane Overlay (MPO), which involves tinkering with the Registry. Personally, I would rather use NVCleanstall to turn it off
