I’ve been looking into using TerraGen to generate terrain for use in UE4 and have managed to create a test terrain i’m reasonably pleased with.
Trouble is, I have no idea how to export my terrain as a height map to use in UE4.
Looking through these forums and on google I can’t seem to find any information on a TerraGen 3 UE4 workflow, and due to currently working on OS X, my terrain generating options are limited.
Anyone successfully exported TerraGen 3 data into UE4?
I used it a long time ago … so I can’t remember … if it can … that is what you should use. Remember however that there are specific requirements to the sizes of the terrain … will see if I can find the link for you.
I sure hope so, the closest i’ve got to getting what i’m looking for is using “Heightfield Export LWO” but that gives me Lightwave LWO format 3D geometry file and not the grey scale image i’m looking for.
The most frustrating part is previewing the Heightfeild export LWO node shows me the exact greyscale image i’m trying to export, but I just can’t get to it.
Anyone know how to export the terrain as a greyscale height map image and not as Lightwave LWO?
In the node network, right-click your heightfield and choose Save As. You can use .ter or .exr formats (free version does not support .exr). If your terrain is not already a heightfield (i.e. it is procedural, using something like a Power Fractal/Fractal Terrain), you can feed the output of your procedural shader(s) into the Shader input of a Heightfield Generate to convert it to a heightfield. Set the sizes (meters and pixels for area covered and resolution, respectively). Then click Generate, and again right-click and Save As. Visit the Planetside Software forums and Wiki for more info:
