In this session recorded at Unreal Fest Bali 2025, we present the latest updates to Quixel’s foliage library, with a focus on what’s been updated in order to make foliage more viable with Nanite and speed up rendering performance.
We get started with some general best practices and a look at the current state of foliage in UE, before diving into the areas for improvement the team has been investigating along with possible solutions that may come in the near future.
You’ll also see a demo that showcases some of the shader updates live, with Epic’s Simon Barle tweaking parameters and displaying various render buffers. And there’s a peek at the reworked wind for plants and a glimpse at what’s coming in terms of trees.
