In this session, we’ll look at how to use the new Substrate Material workflow in Unreal Engine 5 to develop a multi-layered material system. This new workflow offers us more flexibility for our level design, as well as a higher-fidelity look on our shaders.
Materials such as Car Paint greatly benefit from Substrate, since we can fine-tune the percentage of light reflected as specular from a surface when the view is tangent to the surface, add a dirt layer, as well as adding Metallic Flakes or a Pearlescent thin film effect to our material, which can all be controlled in their own layers.
