Hello,
UE 5.3
My PC shuts down abruptly, (not restart but shutdown) when i run UE5.3, the scene was a blank scene with the default landscape and I had only imported a character with 4k textures on to the project. I did not have a problem with previous versions of UE.
Does this have to do with the PC hardware I have?
I did discard the project 2 times and created a new project and the problem is the same.
Could this be the issue with lack of powersupply or the GPU? or somethign else?
This is my PC Configuration.
CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 3950X (16 Core 32 Thread)
Motherboard - Asus x570P
RAM - 64.0 GB DDR 4 3600Mhz
GPU - MSI Radeon RX 5700XT 8GB
SSD - 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus.
OS - Windows 11 Pro, Version 22H2.
PSU - Corsair RM850
I have 5 external USB HDD.
6 Internal HDD.
Keyboard and Mouse.
Hello, @ClockworkOcean
I tried unplugging all the drives, the problem still is the same, the system abruptly shuts down.
I stress tested the pc and all the hardware, I never found any errors or it shutdown while in the process.
I upgraded my PSU to coolermaster 1250W V2. UE 5.4.2 still crashes, could it be that the GPU i have doesnt handle the load?
upgraded my ram to 128GB.
nothing crashes my PC but UE only.
nay suggestions? what is the cause? or its the GPU. i have another system with similar configuration. even that crashes the same way. up to 5.1 it is stable but any engine above 5.2 makes my PC crash.
Ther is no overclocking on any hardware that i have.
i understand, thank you for your help!! it really narrowed it down for me.
I have no crash log, PC just crashes. immediate powerloss. then i have to swith it on again manually.
and editor symbols? you mean visual studios?
may i ask what do you mean this? are you asking me? or did you check on this?
(PS: A browse around shows people having problems with Nanite and this card?)
i havent checked for any log, how do i check that?
Monitor the cpu temperature after you startup unreal engine so you can rule that out. Lagging a lot and then just shutting down after 5 minutes sounds like what would happen if your cpu wasn’t cooling properly.
As @jay001020 says below, I’d monitor the CPU temp, use something like
If it’s too much, even with standard apps, then I’d take a look at the fan/fan speed, and possibly also check the cooler was installed correctly ( you’ll need some paste for that, maybe they didn’t use enough paste ).
For CPU cooling i use Noctua ND-D15. cooler and fans are running well with no issues and i also often clean my pc from dust being gathered.
I reapplied thermal paste 3 months ago with COOLERMASTER CryoFuze W/m.k= 12.6m.
I just now after your suggestion (an hour ago) i update my bios to the latest verions launched this month.
(not to brag, but i have decent experience with assembling pc and maintaing it or trouble shooting the hardware ) but this issue with unreal is the first from me as i am fairly new to it.
I have been using core temp from a long time and the temperatures are stable every time i have checked when using unreal. i have attached SS of my current GPU and CPU temp reading for reference.
there is no lag unless i use a heavy scene like with the sample scene, electric drems environment, hillside sample, city sample, slay animaton.
with these scenes there were times when it use to shutdown but when i increased my ram from 32 - 128 the crash stopped for a while with 5.3 and now it crashes again with UE5.4.
there were times it used to crash when the system was idle (while UE was running in BG) or while i work on other tasks with unreal engine ruinning with an empty porject.
i will test the engine again, with the smple projects instaled and will update you on the status.
