Swapping a released game between engines.

I was working on a game that I have released onto Steam, using a different engine, however now I would like to change engines over to Unreal Engine, my question is in the TOS, it states that Epic must be notified about any projects made with UE before they are released, what would that look like for me as my project is already released, but I now am swapping to Unreal?

This is a bit of a tricky one that if we’re lucky, won’t be a major issue, but I’d recommend submitting the release form ASAP with a good amount of time before you intend to have one of those builds up and leaving in the notes that the title had been released prior and was being ported in the notification form so that if that is an issue the release team can reach out to you directly. Keep clear documentation (and possible attach verification) on how much you have made up to that build’s release, as due to your situation being a bit of an edge case, we don’t want you to lose out of the entitlement to the $1 mil royalty program off of a technicality.

How I expect it to go is that “Release” in your case would mean your first Unreal build that you publish to steam. The notification is required so that royalty tracking can begin. Since you will only be earning money from an Unreal Engine project after that point, this should count as the release of the Unreal era of you game. I’ll reach out to someone to see if I can verify if that is the correct course of action.

Thank you for your answer, i would appreciate it some clarity from Epic themselves as to how this should be handled, however when it comes to submitting the form, there’s a only one problem, and that is I have no idea if/when this will happen, I’m just making sure the door is open if I do, because if I send the submission that pry means I will do it, rather than might do it.
