Suspected MacOS specific issue.
Unable to use “Launch” to open UE5.x editor via the Epic Games Launcher OR via app exectutable in Finder.
Both methods result in “bouncing icon” briefly in the dock before a silent crash. No errors shown. Very first launch attempt after installation will show Mac XProtectService scanning before launch, which delays the crash significantly, but same result after scan.
Opening an existing project file from my vault has launched the editor correctly. Therefore I assume that the “New Project” or default initialisation plays a part.
I’m running Mac OS 12.6.5 Monterey on an Apple Silicone M1 Max MacBook.
I previously installed UE 5.0x and 5.1x via the launcher. Removed all installations. Reinstalled 5.2.0. Also verified 5.2.0. No dice.
I also tested disabling Mac OS SIP (system integrity protection) but this made no change. Therefore I assume that Xprotect / SIP are not the root cause.
Launching via an existing project has been the only successful option since starting this test on my Mac.
