Having spent the last 3 development Sprints in UEFN working on Music related projects I have taken a pretty deep dive into the Musical Tools available for Fortnite Creators. My background is in UE and music application development, music production and sound design, so, I hope this list of features that I would like to see especially in the Patchwork devices might be helpful to the Harmonix Team. Admittedly these are mostly features that are for true music nerds and not for every Fortnite creator, but, they would really be useful to allow for more creation of Music experiences in the Fortnite Universe. The feature list is not in order of importance to our team but rather it is organized by patchwork devices and other music devices. I decided to create a forum post for each device to make it easier to discuss the ideas. The first one is the Patchwork Tool Device.
Patchwork Tool Device – the patchwork tool is a very intuitive way to interact with devices. I would like to see it exposed in such a way that it could be used to interact with more than the Patchwork devices. For example, I took music block tiles and chose the blocks for the minor pentatonic scale and had them take damage from a gun to trigger playing the sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezzhkGsxw-o I was able to write verse code that after I shot and I held down the left mouse button it would sustain the note being triggered until I release the left mouse button (I had swapped out the wav files the music blocks for my own wav files that had looping points in them). Rather than use a gun (which has to be reloaded) the patchwork tool would have been much more intuitive way to interact with the music blocks. In this we way we could have a way for a player to play live leads, melodies and solos long with the patchwork sequencer tunes playing.
