By default editor uses 50-60% of my CPU (on a quite simple scene)
with “t.maxfps 60” CPU usage drops to 25-40% (25% the editor alone, 40% total),
with “t.maxfps 30” CPU usage is just around 5-10% total,
so this is very important setting, that should be displayed as a choise between “unlimited / 60 / 30” inside the engine scalability settings menu (that is opened as a dropdown), so people will avoid asking same question in the future.
My CPU is intel 3570K, 16 GB RAM, MSI Geforce 1060 Videocard, driver is up to date - the 376.33.
Recommended scalability setting is “Epic”, but both “Low” and “Epic” variants have roughly the same CPU usage, so this does not change much (especially for unlimited maxFPS, obviously).
Being alt-tabbed to a different application sets the CPU usage to nearly zero (so this only apllies to the Foreground UE4 Editor window), because im talking about Editor being Idle (when Editor is not doing anything specific).
many of the following questions are resolved automatically just because of that setting:
(the last one answers, how to change the config file, so you dont have to change the “t.MaxFPS” every time you run the UE4 Editor.)
and so on.
So for now recommending them to look at “t.MaxFPS” is the first Answer they need.
