I’ve recently made the move to add my assets to Epic’s new FAB platform and wanted to share a suggestion that could enhance visibility and streamline the user experience for creators like me who showcase and sell their work on various Epic platforms.
Current Observation: While FAB is an exciting addition for asset creators, I noticed that it might not gain as much traction compared to ArtStation. This is particularly important given recent discussions around the potential phase-out of the ArtStation Marketplace next year.
Suggestion: To bridge the gap and create a seamless ecosystem between ArtStation and FAB, I propose adding a dedicated “FAB Store” tab on user profile pages. This would allow creators to showcase their products hosted on FAB directly through their existing ArtStation profile, which many of us already use for our portfolios and community engagement.
Proposed Layout: With this addition, the profile navigation could look like this:
Portfolio | FAB Store | Prints | Blog | About | Likes
Benefits:
Unified Experience: Keeps all creator-related activities under one profile, enhancing user convenience.
Increased Visibility: Helps FAB gain more exposure by tapping into the established ArtStation user base.
Creator Support: Empowers artists to transition smoothly if the ArtStation Marketplace is discontinued, maintaining their connection to their audience.
Consistency: Keeps ArtStation profiles robust and useful, encouraging artists to stay within the Epic ecosystem.
I believe this integration could be a win-win for both the platform and creators, ensuring a smoother transition while fostering better visibility for FAB assets.
Looking forward to feedback from the team and the community!
All I have on my Artstation page about Fab, is a message stating that many of my models are available to purchase on the newly opened Fab store and a link to my page.
I did make a post about a week ago asking that, instead of me having to upload my models to Sketchfab and then copying that link into Artstations create page to give my model a 3D view and in turn linking back to Sketchfab…
…They include a Fab link to my models the same way they do with Sketchfab which means anyone wanting to buy it can click the 3D models Fab icon and land on my Fab store.
I haven’t seen a reply yet…and I just checked Artstation and it’s still not there…
Although that said…I have a major problem with Fabs 3D viewer, particularly the wireframe view. I’m hoping Fab use Sketchfabs way to show it. Which displays the wireframe as it really is.
I have posted about it and according to a staff member a decision about it will be made.
Yes that is infinitely more helpful imo, let’s see what they will do about it, hopefuly they will consider both options, since not many creators are comfortable using web 3d viewers seeing how they can be ripped by piracy websites.
Until recently I wasn’t aware that models can be ripped this way.
But a 3D viewer is a great way to display a model . I think it’s a valuable resource for those wanting to buy a model. Being able to see the topology before they do so. As we know the topology of a model is so important if you want to use the model for more than just creating a poster to stick on your wall.
Of course the 3D viewer must correctly show the topology/wireframe.
When it does it’s a good way to see the difference between, for example, someone who has created a low quality model or a model created with A.I, by showing the sludge like topology A.I can create, which makes the model almost unusable for anything other than creating a poster. A well crafted model won’t break and can be used for anything.
I’m really hoping when Fab gets it’s bugs and problems sorted out it will become the place to go, to buy a quality model.
hey @98657751 , product manager of ArtStation Marketplace (and Fab) here
Thank you for your detailed suggestion, we certainly perceive ArtStation as a very important part of the whole creator ecosystem, and are considering integrating both products into each other in multiple ways, including interlinking Fab’s store to ArtStation user profile, and some other exciting features
We are currently working hard on making the Fab experience awesome, so this would not be a fast follow, but I’d like to let you and the community know that we are proactively thinking about all the way ArtStation and Fab can mutually work for creators’ benefit.
Thanks for considering my suggestion! I appreciate the team’s efforts to enhance the creator ecosystem and am excited to see future integrations between ArtStation and FAB. Looking forward to what’s next!
