Hey this is my first time rendering a character in unreal (I ussually render in blender or maya) and im trying to set up the SS. I tried using a metahuman and didnt get anything so now im trying to just use a cube with a basic, subsurface shader model material that has basic parameters to control bae color, spec, opacity, and sss color. Currently there is not subsurface coming through the model, does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!
I’m not sure if the sss material works with HDRI only. I see you have one light behind it, but I don’t know what the settings are on that light.
I think it might not work when the editor settings are turned below Medium.
what settings would the light need in order to work?
I’m not exactly sure as lights have a ton of settings, but the default light settings for a point light works as long as you have not changed the settings. Just get it close enough to the box so it illuminates it. Looking at the picture again it almost looks like the SSS is working. Try turning it on and off to see if there is a difference. It’s pretty subtle. If you switch the mat to Shading Model > Subsurface Profile make a profile apply it. It might look more like what you want. To me at least that is more what I think of when I say SSS even though it looks even more subtle.
