Substrate Materials Render Setting Issue

Still working out the kinks getting into the flow of UE5.4 and curious why I get reminders when, for example, I’m setting up a Master Material, to activate “Substrate Materials (Experimental)” in the render settings for the project, since it can’t show details of the material until I do. When I enable it and restart Unreal, it takes maybe 5min to recompile all the shaders and only then is this simple material visible in the Content Drawer. Is this procedure really necessary?
