Substance material normal (DirectX) looks weird in UE5

Hi, i need help, i’m desperate. All the assets that i make in substance end up all weird. The problem are the normals I think, they are set to DirectX, look good in substance and when applied to the mesh it’s like they are inverted. I’ll add photos of everything…

(1) mesh normal is ok

(2) mesh with material in substance

(3) mesh in unreal with material applied

(4) the normal in the master material

(5) the material instance settings

If i unplug the normal everything looks ok but flat, which leads me to believe is the normal that has something.

Hello there @Momokedo!

Your setup looks correct, yet there is indeed something strange in the look of your asset in engine. I would test giving the asset a quality pass in Blender, ensuring all normals are facing the right direction (if so, try inverting them), testing for non-manifold geo, and checking that all your UV islands are properly alligned, and not clashing with each other.

If the issue persists, check the lighting in your scene, as the chest seems to be in an enclosed area. Test it in an open scene, with default ambient lighting. Also, in Substance, review which color mode you are on. For UE work, you should be using ACES - sRGB (or ACES 1.2), so you get the closest color matchup between both tools.
