Submix output volume - documentation suggests not using this in game, why?

The exact quote from the docs (4.27) is:

**Output Volume—**Controls the overall output volume for the whole submix in both dry and wet channels. It is not recommended that you mix game volume using this property, but it can be useful for tweaking the volume in a submix.

Why is this not recommended, and what is recommended instead? Dealing with the dry/wet volumes, or the ‘Submix Output Volume’ function, which is just a multiplier of that same parameter? I have used it for heaps of things and not had any issues, was curious as to why it says this.
