I’m trying to make stylized grass using a tutorial and I have already been successful doing this once when I was just testing it. Now that I actually want to use it for my scene its not looking fluffy for some reason? I did everything the same there’s no difference. This is my 3rd attempt. The first picture is from my test where I was successful. The second is how it looks right now. The third is how it looks in unlit mode which is fluffy? So it must be a lighting issue right? I tried everything though I still can’t figure it out. My lighting is the same. Please help I’d be really grateful. This is for a university assignment.
From the lit screen. it looks like grass mat is using the normals from the mesh. Try plugging a vector 3 of x:0, y:0, z:1 (should look blue in mat graph) into the normals pin on grass material so the normals all point straight up.
I already had them pointing at Z axis when I exported them from Maya but I did what you said and it still didn’t fix it ![]()
Open grass in mesh editor, then hit alt+n (or click eyeyball in viewport and use menu) to show normals, and make sure they still point up. Could be UE recalculated them on import. I had that happen the first time I imported stylized grass with normals pointed up in blender.
Oh my god I fixed it!! Thank you so much!
apparently Maya and Unreal have different axis good to know
Thank you so much again![]()

Yea, maya is Y up, shouldn’t have mattered tho, as the trip thru fbx pipeline should have turned normals relative to mesh transform. I’m thinking UE probably just recomputed them because reasons. But, yea, remember that alt+n keybind for when you start importing floofy trees. ![]()
