Stupid question

Sorry, I don’t even know what its called, so i dont know how to look it up.

So, when i apply a texture to an object, it spreads/stretches a single “frame” to the object, instead of applying multiple copies to fit the object? Im not sure what thats even called, tiling? Sorry, spent about 10 minutes looking for something intuitive but Im sure this is a really simple thing Im not seeing.
