Student here.

Hello, First time on the forums here! I wanted to ask a few questions about UDK… as you can see from the title im a student… Ive been studying Games Design for close to a year now, Ive been a gamer for over 11 years, We have all heard of UDK if u havent your not a gamer anywho that was offtopic.

My questions are:

Do you have to pay a subscription for ASLONG as you use UDK?

Is it user friendly?

Is it worth gaining experience?

When is UDK 4 out?

Finally…

Is it worth it?

Sorry i didnt use the Answerhub i wanted to post on the forums i prefer them.

Thanks alot for the all the replys in advance if i gain any  Cya around the forum

You don’t have to pay, although remember that udk is made of ue3, and this is the ue4 forum. So you actually would be better of using ue4.

There won’t ever be an udk4. Look at it, for 21$ a month , you get something, that was earlier worth around 750.000$. That’s at least fair. Also, you can pay once, and keep using it, but you won’t get udpates.

It’s for sure more worth learning ue4 than udk.

Good luck

Welcome to the forums!

To clarify, there is no UDK4, its UE4.
You did the right thing by posting this in the forums. AnswerHub is more focused on bug reports.
You can pay 20 dollars once and use the version of the engine you bought for as long as you wish.
Yes, it is worth it.

Now, you can check those threads to get more opinions;

I would also recommend you to take a look at the threads from , but my opinion is: It is worth!! -> easy to use, great community, cheap, powerful engine,…

Howdy Baxteruk and welcome to the UE4 Community,

Thanks for inquiring about UDK and UE4. As our mods have answered, UDK is a great way to get into Game Development. It is provided free of cost on our Unreal site: https://www.unrealengine/products/udk. I would highly recommend jumping straight into UE4 though. There are written and video tutorials, the AnswerHub, Unreal Forums, and the Wiki, to help with getting started and learning the Engine. As long as you have the drive to learn, you will be just fine. If you purchase UE4 at $19/mo, you have the option to cancel your subscription and still use all of the assets provided with the Engine. The only downfall is that you do not have access to any future updates to the Engine. I hope that between the Mods answers and mine, this helps to clear up any questions that you are having with using UDK and UE4.

Thanks and have a great day!
