Im new to unreal engine. Im trying to download unreal engine 5, but i cannot do that because installing buttons are disabled and epic games launcher stuck at “Discovering content…”
Ive tried using VPNs, changing dns. Ive reinstalled epic games launcher 5 times (deleting all the folders that are connected to unreal engine or epic games.). Ive updated my drivers, ive cleared cache several times, ive logged in by different accounts, troubleshooting in epic games launcher says thats everything is fine, logs are clean, epic games launcher is up to date.
That’s quite a bizarre status for the Epic Launcher. Either it’s being blocked, which you have already checked with VPN and DNS, or something is faulty within the installation, which seems to be fine per your checks, as well.
I think the issue is deeper, between the system’s registry, something a quick reinstall won’t affect. For this issue, I suggest a full uninstall/reinstall of all Epic software from your setup:
First, uninstall the launcher, any asset packs you had, if any, etc
Next, open the registry directory HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Epic Games\Unreal Engine\Builds, and delete any build entries
Finally, delete the folders %userprofile%\AppData\Local\UnrealEngine and %userprofile%\AppData\Local\UnrealHeaderTool
After that, no elements related to UE should be left in your system
Now, reinstall UE launcher from scratch, and only add the latest UE version (as of today, 5.8.1)
If the install works, and completes, then please test it by creating a blank project
Unfortunately, this method didn’t work either. Technical support keeps asking me to repeat the same steps from the manual. It seems like nothing solves this problem, and Epic doesn’t even seem concerned enough to investigate it.
